Photodisintegration of the Deuteron at 20 MeV using Circularly Polarized Photons

April 2014
An experiment devoted to measuring the photodisintegration of the deuteron using 20 MeV circularly polarized photons was performed at the High-Intensity Gamma Source (HIGS) located at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina in September 2008. The experiment was led by Kucuker, and she initially analyzed the data, however, her results showed an inconsistency in the parameterized differential cross section, between the short and long targets at extreme polar angles (θ near 0 and180o) [6]. This discrepancy inspired the current work: a second, independent, analysis of the data set.
